Huntsville pest control

We are Alabama's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Huntsville raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Huntsville pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Huntsville Raccoon Control Tip: Are Raccoons Able To Climb Vinyl Siding Or The Brick Walls Of Your Home?
Raccoons are among the most agile and clever wild animal species that most people can deal with as homeowners, and from time to time they can find their way into the domestic property. The truth is that raccoons are most commonly found in the areas of properties that people find it difficult to get to, which means that the attic or loft space is one of the places where raccoons can become an issue. The question is, how do these raccoons get to the upper areas of your property, and will different wall materials hinder their progress.

How Well Can Raccoons Climb?
Raccoons are actually quite large creatures when compared with the majority of pest animal species, so many people would expect them to be ground dwelling animals. However, they are actually particularly good climbers, and much like squirrels, one of their main defense mechanisms when they encounter a predator is to quickly climb a tree to escape. The raccoons have sharp front claws which allow them to get purchase and dig in to many surfaces that they climb, and then pull the rest of their body up where needed.

Can Raccoons Climb Brick Walls?
Brick walls are certainly vulnerable to raccoons climbing, as the vast majority of bricks will offer plenty of grip for the raccoons to be able to climb up quickly and safely. The majority of brick walls around properties are vertical, but this is no deterrent for raccoons as they are comfortable climbing the majority of surfaces. The key thing to remember is that raccoons will be climbing brick walls for a reason, and this will usually be that there is a hole or weak spot along the roofline that is actually allowing them to gain access to your attic or loft space.

Are They Able To Climb Vinyl Siding Or Similar Surfaces?
Vinyl siding is a material that is used as a cladding for walls, and as such doesn't need to be quite as strong as bricks when it comes to their ability to support a domestic property. The natural instinct when thinking about the smooth surfaces of vinyl siding is that it would resist the efforts of raccoons to climb, however, because of the overlapping style of the surfaces and the sharp strong claws of raccoons, they will often still be able to climb these walls. Another common material for siding is wood, and these offer even more purchase for the raccoon to ascend.

Signs Of Raccoons Climbing A Property
One of the major signs of raccoons climbing the walls of a property will be the scratches that they produce, and these will be most visible on softer surfaces such as vinyl and wood siding. Generally, raccoons will climb the edges of surfaces such as the corners of the building, rather than climbing the middle of a wall, as they will usually find areas with extra grip around the edge of the wall surface. Another sign of a raccoon climbing will be at the top of the wall, as you will also usually see the small holes that the raccoons are using to get in and out of the attic there.

Dealing With A Raccoon Infestation In The Attic
If you do have raccoons in the attic, setting a cage trap in the area is generally the best way of dealing with the problem. You should choose an appropriately sized trap, and lay it in the attic near where the raccoon is nesting with a little bait such as cat or dog food. You should then monitor the trap regularly, and once you have caught the pest raccoon, make sure that you relocate the animal well away from your property.
